Essex High School (EHS) is an Alternative Educational Program serving classified, non-classified and at-risk middle and high school students. While Behavioral Disabilities and Learning and/ or Language Disabilities are the school’s primary classifications, students may also be at-risk due to self-abuse or drug involvement. The EHS curriculum is fully aligned with New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and offers a low student to staff ratio.
EHS’s non-traditional setting allows students to earn credits toward graduation through the documentation of skills demonstrated and proficiencies mastered. Student goals are woven into an academic program addressing their educational, behavioral, social and emotional needs.
Learning opportunities include a comprehensive technology program, an active visual and performing arts program, and courses in the maintenance and design of modern computer systems. The academic program is supported through counseling, mentoring substance awareness, workplace readiness, family support, internships and college preparation services.
